Toys R Us & Babies R Us South Africa has pledged on-going support to Duffs Road Primary, after heeding its desperate call to help stock its new library.
After a few visits to the school, this year, South Africa’s leading toy retailer is determined to turn this dream into a reality. This week, the Toys R Us TRUpers visited the school with even more books, DVD’s as well as educational flashcards which can be used as learning aids for the pupils.
Teachers heaped praise following the visit, saying it would play a vital role in improving the school’s academic performance. Principal Gopichund Maharaj said it was a dream for her pupils to have access to a library filled with books.
He said that even though his school is a “no-fee paying” school this did not mean that the pupils did not deserve the best education. "These books will help us fulfil our vision of teaching children to the fullest of our ability because every child deserves a good education. I cannot tell you how many times I prayed for my pupils to get these books, this an absolute dream come true."
Duffs Road Primary is now implementing a library session to the 2019 timetable to allow its children access to the books and toys now available at the library. “It has been such a pleasure working with this wonderful school and helping them ignite the passion for reading. We are committed to seeing this library grow as well as these kids love for learning. We will definitely be back next year.,” says Nicole Jansen Van Vuuren, marketing manager Toys R Us & Babies R Us South Africa.
She said that the Toys R Us team is passionate about influencing positive change by doing more good deeds for deserving communities adding that this initiative allowed them the opportunity to give back to the community. "We were able to deliver and the experience of giving back to these kids was hugely gratifying. To see so many smiles of gratitude and appreciation on these young faces was priceless,” said Van Vuuren.
